SCARF, Volcanoes and PE with Mr Treble

 Hi Reception Families,

What a busy week we had!

We had a fantastic PE session with Mr Treble on Tuesday and really enjoy our SCARF session with Harold, our focus was on Mental Health, being resilient, and the power of the word 'Yet' reminding us that we can always try again.

In Understanding the World, we were learning about Volcanoes, I wonder if the children can remember the difference between magma and lava? We loved building volcanoes in the sandpit, creating them in make and create, drawing them, being our very own volcanoes. On Thursday we conducted a science experiment using Vinegar and Bicarbonate of Soda. The children made observations of what was happening, during the reaction. We went into the hall and used our bodies to represent a volcanic eruption.

In Expressive Art and Design, this week we introduced the artistic skill of sketching, we made observations from a photograph of a sunflower. The drawings the children made were absolutely amazing, what talented and skilled learners we have in Reception. It blew my socks off!!

In English we are exploring all things Pirate! We have loved reading The Night Pirates and this focus will continue next week.

Turning our attention to next week:

Parent information Session. 9:00 Wednesday in the staffroom.

English: The Night Pirates (Don't forget pirate dress up on Thursday)

Maths: Subitise to 6

Understanding the World: Different Types of Homes

Art: Shading and Sketching

PE: Tuesday with Mr Treble.

As Ever if there is anything we can do, please do not hesitate to ask.

Avast Me Hearties

 Hi Reception Families,

Our current focus in English is the Night Pirates, which tells the story of 'Rough and Tough girl pirates' who trick Captain Patch and the grown up pirates and steal all their treasure!

I thought it would be good fun if we had a 'dress like a pirate' day to help inspire our Pirate Guidebook writing at the end of next week.

Children are invited to come to school dressed as a pirate Next Thursday 25th April.  Please do not feel that you have to buy a costume they are very easy to make and homemade costumes are amazing!  Savvy?

We will be making pirate hats and eye patches in school.

Here are some ideas

Birds, the Farm and Odds and Evens

 Hi Receptions Families,

Firstly the whole team would like to say a great big thank you to all your support, kind words and good will last week. The children were absolutely wonderful all week.

We had a fabulous, if rather wet trip to the farm, those little legs walked a long way.

In English we have finished our focus on The Extraordinary Gardener and this week children will be bringing home their pea plants.  We would love it see some photos of how they continue to grow at home.

In maths we were learning about Odd and Even numbers, this is a tricky concept and we would encourage supporting children with this concept at home. They have learnt the signs for Odd and Even too I wonder if they can show you?

In Understanding the World, we explored all about birds this week, the children's knowledge of this garden favourite was impressive! We made nests, a wormery and had a fantastic time playing 'volcanoes' outside in the sand pit.

Turning our attention to next week, firstly I can't believe it it the last week of the Spring Term!

But secondly and most importantly on THURSDAY at 3:00 we will be having a Tiger Who Came to Tea  #inspiredtolearn Tiger Tea Party, we would love for you to join us for this special tea party to celebrate the end of term. Please keep it as a surprise for the time being as the children are going to 'invite' you tomorrow. If you are unable to make the tea party but another family member or friend can they are most welcome to join us!

Drawing Club: The Tiger Who Came to Tea

Maths: Height and Length

Understanding the World: Tigers

Expressive Art and Design: Junk Model boats

Here we go into our final week of the Spring Term before we begin our Adventure into the Summer Term and our final term in Reception.... Trust me it's going to be wonderful!
